Mesquite’s treasures are many, and one was added to the list when the Women’s History and Culture Center opened in September 2018. The Center, located at 225 N. Willow #23 (the old elementary school), is in a square block complex that is home to many non-profit organizations. Our parking lot boasts a beautiful, colorful mural on the building wall. As of 2021, we have a new mural honoring the Women’s Suffrage Centennial, directly across from our entrance doors. We’ve also added beautiful pavers in the “Plaza” area, making room for outdoor events, celebrations, meetings, whatever you can imagine! Check our “Gallery” tab for photo updates of many things going on, including updates to the Center.

OUR MISSION
The Mission Statement of the Women’s History and Culture Center reads:
WHCC builds on women’s historical achievements to light the way for future generations by providing resources, opportunities, and activities that make a difference in the greater Mesquite community.
EXHIBITS
At the Center, you will see how the roles of women have changed through the centuries with our book display shelves that hold over 700 books. There are stories depicting women in Military, Science, Arts, Industry, Medicine, Technology, Legal, Fashion, Photography, Sports and many other fields. The stories are fascinating, not just for what these women accomplished, but for how they overcame obstacles and went on to follow their dreams.
Additionally, the Center has a collection of biographies on Nevada women pioneers that was researched by the Nevada Women’s History Project, plus many posters and reference materials issued by the National Women’s History Project.
Another section focuses on girls and role models, and the childhoods of extraordinary women and their accomplishments. This offers children the tools they need to explore their potential and realize that anything is possible and, with a will to succeed, dreams can be turned into reality.
(While our books are not available to ‘check out’ of the Center, you can certainly get acquainted with one or more, and put them on your wish list to own, or just set aside time to come by and read them at the Center.)
2020 SUFFRAGE CENTENNIAL
Raising public awareness that 2020 is the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, is an important focus of the Women’s History and Culture Center. This Amendment gave women the right to vote! The contributions made in our society by women over the last hundred years are the result of the prior hundred years of non-violent protests by generations of women, many who never lived to see the day when women could vote. Come and see our beautiful mural celebrating the “Women’s Suffrage Centennial.”
